Server settings & configuration

Your email, properly connected.

All connection data for MX-Relay and ESS in one place. Choose your service below and take over the settings in your mail server, application or DNS management.

01

Outgoing email through MX-Relay

Use the hostname below as a SMTP server or smarthost in your mail server, application or email program.

Setting Value
SMTP-server / smarthost smtp.mx-relay.com
Recommended port 587 with STARTTLS
Alternative port 465 with SSL/TLS (TLS from the start of the connection)
Other available ports 25 and 2525; use STARTTLS
Authentication SMTP username and password or an authorized source IP address (according to your account settings)

Use the host name so that your connection follows the current DNS settings. Keep TLS certificate check enabled. Use the data from your management portal for SMTP authentication.

02

Configure SPF

Add the following to the existing SPF record of your shipping domain:

include:_spf.mx-relay.com

Do not create a second SPF record and keep settings for other services that send email on behalf of your domain. The include is part of an SPF record, not a complete record.

03

Incoming email through ESS

For domains connected to ESS, use the MX records below. Both records have the same priority.

Name Type Priority Mail server
@ MX 10 nl.ess.mx-relay.com.
@ MX 10 nl2.ess.mx-relay.com.

First add your domain to ESS. Set the delivery route to your own mail server and test it before changing the MX records. After filtering, ESS will deliver the email to that mail server. When using its own reseller MX hostnames, follow the data in your ESS portal.

04

IP addresses and firewall rules

The IPv4 addresses below are currently part of the named connection hostnames. Before connecting to the SMTP service, leave the desired SMTP port to all five addresses of smtp.mx-relay.com if your firewall restricts traffic at IP address.

Service / hostname IPv4 address
Outgoing: smtp.mx-relay.com 5.39.185.42
5.39.185.43
5.39.185.35
5.39.185.37
5.39.185.34
ESS: nl.ess.mx-relay.com 5.39.185.39
ESS: nl2.ess.mx-relay.com 5.39.185.27

IP addresses can change. For SMTP and MX settings, always use the host names. This list of connection addresses is not a complete list of all possible sending IP addresses. Do you want to limit incoming connections on your own mail server to our delivery servers? Ask support for the appropriate allowed source addresses for your environment.

Existing Antispamcloud environment

The information below is only for customers who still use the existing Antispamcloud service. Do not use it for a new ESS connection.

Priority MX host name
10 filter10.antispamcloud.com.
20 filter20.antispamcloud.com.
30 filter30.antispamcloud.com.
40 filter40.antispamcloud.com.

The smarthost for this environment is smtp.antispamcloud.com. Existing delivery hostnames are delivery.antispamcloud.com en master.antispamcloud.com. When switching to ESS, contact support, so that the domains and delivery routes are first arranged.
